The CDC recommends avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth to prevent transmission of the virus.
Contact lens wear is safe, but disinfection and hygiene is more important than ever. Before applying or removing your lenses, wash your hands for 20 seconds then dry on a clean towel.
There have been reports of COVID-19 causing conjunctivitis, also known as pink eye. Upper respiratory infections are known to cause conjunctivitis. If you have pink eyes, it is important to avoid touching your eyes and to launder all pillowcases and towels.
Recommendations
For contact lens wearers, consider temporarily switching to glasses (especially if you have glasses as backup)
Some wearers of contact lenses may touch their eyes more frequently than those wearing glasses.
Eyewear (e.g., glasses, sunglasses, safety googles) may provide an extra layer of protection by shielding your eyes, although the protection is not 100%.
Double check your eye related supplies (e.g., medications, eye drops, eye solution) in case there are further disruptions to supplies and mobility. If you need to renew your prescription, please reach out to us.
Practice good eyecare hygiene by not rubbing your eyes. If you must touch your eyes directly with your hands, first wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
Eyecon Optometry is also taking additional measures (on top of existing measures) for the health and safety of our patients and employees during the COVID-19 global pandemic.
